It's called playing the piano because it's so fun!
Piano students at the Colleen Cole Conservatory progress through a classical piano method which emphasizes staff-note reading, rhythm counting, sight-reading, solo playing, ensemble playing, and music theory. In piano class, students play digital pianos solo and in ensemble. In addition, classes at the Conservatory include engaging theory fun sheets and entertaining board games which teach and reinforce concepts. The Colleen Cole Conservatory teaches beginners through advanced pianists to read music and accompany other musicians which lead to a lifetime of enjoying playing the piano.

OF GROUP PIANO INSTRUCTION
GROUP PIANO LESSONS... WHY NOW?
Why did piano lessons evolve as a solo activity? Everything else is taught to children in groups: karate, ballet, soccer, even reading and math. What made learning to play the piano so different? Quite simply, the piano itself. In the past a piano teacher could only own one acoustic piano. They are big, expensive, and loud. With the development of electronic pianos, however, everything changed: group piano classes are energetic and fun! Plus, children learn to play the piano better when they are taught in small groups. When children are having fun in piano class, they pay attention to the activity at hand while learning to become independent pianists. So join the fun and learn how to play!

COMPOSER MAYRON COLE ON
THE BENEFITS OF GROUP INSTRUCTION
Almost 40 years ago when I was teaching piano in Houston, I decided to place some students with the same piano playing abilities in small groups and teach all of them at the same time. Surprisingly, the group piano classes created an unexpected surge in enthusiasm and lesson preparation by the students. I could easily see that the group taught students were becoming stronger musicians than my few remaining privately taught students. The group students’ rhythm counting and sight-reading skills were superior in every way! I wasn’t aware of it at the time, but those first group piano students were also testing all of the music for the thousands of students who would eventually study from my books.
GROUP PIANO STUDENTS SCORE 48% HIGHER
In a speech to The United States House of Representatives Committee on Education, June Hinckley, President of The National Association for Music Education, explained, “There is an exciting body of research that indicates that music instruction at an early age actually wires the brain for learning… In a study published in Neurological Research, Dr. Rauscher (psychologist at the University of Wisconsin) found that… children who received piano keyboard lessons scored significantly higher on spatial reasoning tests than the other children (not taking piano lessons) who were matched in IQ and socio-economic status – 34% higher to be exact. Spatial-temporal reasoning involves higher brain functions that are needed to solve complex math and science problems. Thus, the findings pointed to a direct link between music instruction and math and science aptitude… She (then) replicated her earlier study but used… group piano instruction rather than private lessons. She found that students receiving (group) keyboard instruction outscored those who received no formal music training by an astonishing 48 percent on spatial reasoning tests… The research clearly shows that music instruction, taught by qualified teachers, produces measurable enhancements in the development of children’s brains, resulting in significant educational benefits.”
